What makes an L shape sofa convertible

A convertible L shape sofa is an L shape sofa with a chaise plus a separate matching footstool, made in the same fabric and colour. Place the footstool beside the chaise to widen the lounging area, or move it in front of the main seats as a footrest. The sofa stays the same shape, and only the footstool moves. Each design on this page is also sold as a standard L shape sofa without the footstool, so the choice comes down to whether you want the extra piece in the room.

Convertible L shape sizes and prices

Every design here comes with a 90 × 60 cm matching footstool. The table shows the footprint of the sofa itself, with the main run first and the chaise return second.

As each M&H sofa is handmade, finished dimensions may vary slightly from the stated measurements as a result of normal manufacturing tolerances. Every published size for these ranges is in our sofa size guide.

Five designs, five different looks

The Rio has rolled scroll arms, a button-tufted front rail and turned legs with brass caps. The Hazel has rounded, piped arms and a lower 40 cm seat for a relaxed sit. The Monroe is the most compact at 235 × 150 cm and 80 cm deep. The Ashton has diamond tufting across the arms and base with scatter back cushions, and the Chelsea Chesterfield has deep buttoning, rolled arms and bun feet at a low 65 cm high.

Plan the floor for both footstool positions

Mark the sofa footprint on the floor with low-tack tape, then mark the footstool in both places you plan to use it, beside the chaise and in front of the seats. Check that doors still open, radiators stay clear and there is room to walk past in each layout.

The footstool is a separate piece, so the route check is the same as for the standard L shape in that design. Measure the narrowest doorway, hallway, staircase and turn on the route in, and if access looks close, use our size guide and send us the design and your route measurements before ordering.

Choose your chaise side

Every convertible L shape comes as Left Hand Facing or Right Hand Facing at the same price, chosen on the product page. Standing facing the sofa, Left Hand Facing puts the chaise on your left. The chaise side cannot be changed after delivery, so choose the orientation that works best with your doors, furniture and walkways.

Fabric and colour

Made to order in Yorkshire

Every convertible L shape is handmade to order at our Yorkshire workshop after you choose the design, chaise side, fabric and colour. Delivery to mainland UK is free, and each product page shows the current lead time.
