What Is Jumbo Cord?

Jumbo Cord is a wide-ribbed upholstery fabric with a pronounced raised texture.

The term describes the fabric rather than the size or shape of a sofa. A sofa can therefore have a 2 seater, 3 seater, L-shaped or corner configuration independently of the upholstery selected for it.

Jumbo Cord is associated with the broader cord and corduroy fabric family, with wider and more visible ribs than finer cord fabrics.

How the M&H Jumbo Cord Sofa Range Is Organised

M&H currently uses “Jumbo Cord” within the names of the sofa products in this collection.

The product name and the upholstery selected at checkout are not necessarily the same attribute. Some current Jumbo Cord-named product pages also list alternative standard upholstery options, including Naple and Conistan.

This means a product can belong to the current M&H Jumbo Cord sofa range while the individual product page may offer more than one standard upholstery choice.

Across the currently published specifications, the listed seat height is 45 cm and the listed arm height is 65 cm.

Jumbo Cord Texture and Appearance

Jumbo Cord has broad raised ribs that create a visibly textured upholstery surface.

The direction of the pile can affect how the fabric appears under different lighting, so a colour viewed on a screen may look different in the room where the sofa will be used.

A physical swatch is useful when comparing both colour and surface texture before choosing an upholstery option.

Jumbo Cord Colour Options

The current Jumbo Cord upholstery option lists six colours.

These colours refer specifically to the Jumbo Cord fabric. If the product page also offers another upholstery family, that material has its own corresponding colour options.

Can These Sofas Be Ordered in Other Fabrics?

Some current Jumbo Cord-named M&H product pages also list Naple and Conistan as standard upholstery options.

Where one of these fabrics appears as a selectable option on the individual product page, choosing it is treated as a standard product choice rather than a bespoke request.

Jumbo Cord Fabric Specifications

The upholstery name describes the fabric surface, but it does not by itself establish the sofa's internal construction, firmness or tested durability.

M&H does not currently publish verified fibre composition, Martindale abrasion, pilling or colourfastness figures for Jumbo Cord on this collection page, so numerical performance claims are not made here.

Construction information should also be checked against the individual sofa specification rather than assumed from the fabric name.

Handmade in Yorkshire

M&H sofas in this collection are handmade at the M&H Yorkshire workshop.

Because they are handmade, small natural dimensional variations can occur in the finished product. The published measurements should be used for comparison and room planning.

Construction specifications can vary by sofa design, so product-specific details should be checked on the individual product rather than generalised across the whole collection.

Standard and Bespoke Options

Any size, fabric, colour or configuration already listed as a selectable option on the product page is a standard M&H option.

For example, if Jumbo Cord, Naple or Conistan are already offered for a particular sofa, choosing one of those fabrics does not make the order bespoke.

A sofa is treated as bespoke where a customer requests an alteration to the standard dimensions, such as a different sofa length, or requests an upholstery fabric that is not part of the standard options offered for that product.

If you need a different sofa length or an upholstery fabric outside the listed options, contact M&H before ordering so the requested specification can be discussed.

Which Current Configuration Uses the Least Floor Space?

The 2 Seater has the shortest straight-sofa footprint in the current range at 165 × 90 cm.

The 3 Seater measures 190 × 90 cm. The L Shape uses a 212 × 164 cm footprint, while the Corner Sofa uses a 240 × 240 cm footprint.

A smaller published footprint does not automatically make a sofa suitable for every small room. Check the available floor space, furniture positions, doors and access route before choosing.

Corner vs L-Shaped Sofa Configurations

The current Jumbo Cord L Shape Sofa and Jumbo Cord Corner Sofa use different room footprints.

The L Shape measures 212 × 164 cm, while the Corner Sofa measures 240 × 240 cm.

Compare the actual published measurements and the way the sofa will occupy your floor plan rather than choosing by the configuration name alone.

Is There a 4 Seater in the Current Jumbo Cord Range?

There is not currently a dedicated 4 Seater product listed in this collection.

If you require a different sofa length from the standard products currently offered, contact M&H to discuss whether a bespoke dimensional alteration is available for the selected design.

Check Sofa Access Before Ordering

Room fit and physical access into the room should be checked separately. A sofa can fit in its final position while the route into the room remains restricted.

1. Measure the narrowest usable doorway opening.
2. Check hallway width.
3. Measure staircases and landings.
4. Check sharp turns separately.
5. Check available height where a sofa may need to be tilted.
6. Allow for fixed furniture or other restrictions along the route.
