1 seater sofa is the single-seat size of a full sofa range, built for one adult, and there are twelve of them in the current collection. Published lengths run 105 to 120 cm, depths 80 to 90 cm and heights 65 to 85 cm, with a seat height of 45 cm on eleven designs and 40 cm on the Chelsea Line. Prices run £499 to £700. Each design is made to order at our Yorkshire workshop and upholstered in one of six fabrics — five of the twelve ranges offer all six, the other seven offer four. Every one also has a matching two seater at the same depth, height and seat height. Length is the only published dimension that changes between the two sizes.

What a 1 seater sofa is, and what ours are
Sofa chair, single sofa, one seater couch, single settee , all of them describe upholstered seating built for one adult, and which word you reach for depends mostly on where you grew up. What differs between makers is whether that single seat is its own design or a member of a range. Ours are range members. The Charlotte 1 seater and the Charlotte 2 seater share the same depth, height, seat height and fabric list; they differ in length.

As each M&H sofa is handmade, finished dimensions may vary slightly from the published measurements as a result of normal manufacturing tolerances.
The difference between the smallest and largest designs is enough to change how they work in a room. MH Luxury Chesterfield, Romeo, MH Theo and MH Luxury are the most compact options, while Charlotte, Ambassador, Chelsea Line and Oakley provide a wider single-seat footprint. So there is no single M&H one-seater size, and any guide telling you a UK one seater is "typically 90 to 110 cm wide" is describing an average rather than a product.
Seat height is 45 cm on eleven of the twelve. The Chelsea Line is 40.
Arm height, usable seat width, seat depth, weight and packed dimensions are not published consistently across all twelve designs, so they are not in the table. The height column is the figure the product pages publish; we do not currently state whether it is measured with the back cushions in place, and we would rather say that than let you assume.
Choosing the right 1 seater sofa
Start with the space you have
One seater does not describe one footprint. The shortest are MH Luxury Chesterfield, Romeo, MH Theo and MH Luxury at 105 cm. Majestic and Scarlet are 107, Winston and Oliver are 110, and Charlotte, Ambassador, Chelsea Line and Oakley are 120.
Depth runs differently. MH Theo and Charlotte are the shallowest at 80 cm, Romeo is 85, and the other nine are 90. If you are filling a corner or a bay, compare both numbers the shortest design is not automatically the one that projects least into the room. Charlotte is the clearest case: 120 cm long, and shallower than everything except MH Theo.
Check the route into the room
Room fit and delivery access are two different questions, and the second is where careful measuring matters most.
A 762 mm door leaf is not a 762 mm clear opening the leaf, the stops and the hinge side all take some of it. A door leaf measurement is not the same as the usable opening. Frames, stops and hinges reduce the space available, so measure the clear opening at the narrowest point. Against that, these sofas are 80 to 90 cm deep. Compare the clear opening against the sofa depth before ordering.
Measure the narrowest usable point on the whole route, not the front door alone:
- entrance and internal doorways
- hallways
- stairs and landings
- lifts, where relevant
- tight corners and turns
Height and depth give you a first indication and they cannot settle it. What settles it is diagonal depth, rigid-frame dimensions, arm shape, what comes off, and how much room you have to turn the thing and we do not publish diagonal depth, packed dimensions or removable-component information across all twelve. So we will not give you one minimum doorway figure and pretend it holds for every design. Send us the model and your route measurements before you order, and we will check it against the sofa.
Fabric options
Six fabrics run across the catalogue: Plush Velvet, jumbo cord sofas, Chenille, Conistan, Naple and Teddy/Bouclé. Five of the twelve one seaters offer all six Majestic, MH Luxury, Chelsea Line, Romeo and Oliver. The other seven offer four. Jumbo Cord is a fabric, not a shape of sofa, and the range named after it also comes in two others.
Check the fabric selector on the product page rather than assuming every material runs on every design. Order a set of fabric swatches if you want to compare colour and texture in your own light.

Matching a 1 seater with a larger sofa
All twelve designs on this page also appear in the current 2 seater sofas collection, and across the published data the one- and two-seater versions of a range keep the same depth, height, seat height and number of fabrics. Length is the change.

What is a 1 seater sofa?
The single-seat size within a sofa range, built for one adult. You will also see it called a one seater sofa, single seater sofa, single sofa, sofa chair, one seater couch or single settee. Same seating type, different words for it.
Is a 1 seater sofa the same as an armchair?
A sofa chair usually means a single-seat upholstered chair, while a 1 seater sofa is the single-seat version of a sofa range. The terms overlap, but M&H one-seaters are designed to match larger sofas.
Will one fit through a standard doorway?
We cannot promise it, and anyone who does without seeing your hallway is guessing. The depth that has to clear the frame is 80 to 90 cm. Approved Document M puts clear opening width at 750, 775 or 800 mm, so on those numbers the margin is thin or gone, and diagonal depth is what really decides it. Send us the model and the narrowest point on the route and we will check before you order.
Is a 1 seater sofa the same as a love seat?
No. A 1 seater sofa is designed for one person, while a love seat is a compact two-seater sofa designed for two people.

Is a 1 seater sofa a good choice for a small room?
A one-seater sofa is often chosen for smaller rooms, reading areas, bedrooms or as an additional seat alongside a larger sofa. Compare width and depth rather than relying only on the name.
Do you make a 1 seater sofa bed or recliner?
Neither. These are fixed seating sofas with no folding bed and no recliner mechanism in any of the twelve. Google mixes sofa beds into this search, so it is worth saying here rather than letting you find out at checkout.
Where a 1 seater sofa works
A one seater sofa works well when you need an additional seat without taking the space of a larger sofa. It can be used alongside a matching sofa, beside a window, in a reading corner or as part of a larger living room arrangement.
Can I have one in a size or fabric you don't list?
Sometimes. Everything selectable on a product page is a standard option, and choosing one does not make a sofa bespoke. Contact M&H if you require a different sofa length or a fabric outside the standard offered range.
What does the M&H warranty cover?
The internal frame carries a 10-year commercial warranty. Where a claim is accepted, the affected covered part is replaced rather than the whole sofa. Electrical components and sofa mechanisms do not carry a separate M&H commercial warranty, which is a short conversation here, because none of these twelve has either.
Can I see the sofas before ordering?
Yes the showroom is at Thorite House, Bradford, open Monday to Saturday, and you can walk in without an appointment. It is a separate place from the Yorkshire workshop where the sofas are handmade.
